東西方自古都將陶瓷定位在實用與工藝的範疇，突破陶瓷的器用領域是潘安儀藝術創作的動力；如何跳脫媒材既成概念的限制，賦予陶土新的生命語彙是當代陶藝界的挑戰。從台灣流行的茶藝著手，潘安儀發展出「竹雕」藝術。從「如真似幻」的竹雕著手，深入發展陶的可能性。
作為一個藝術史學者與藝術家，文化情懷啟發潘安儀在陶雕中含藏東方韻味。竹子在中國文化中代表著多重的象徵意涵：君子的謙卑、韌性與耐力。透過細微觀察竹子生態與自主的藝術詮釋，潘安儀巧手中再現的竹子是具有文人文化特質與東方韻味的新形式與內容。
Pan An-Yi, creates highly technical bamboo joints from pottery that realizes his personal and minute observations of nature. The bamboo sculptures of Pan An-Yi are full of the aesthetics of Chinese calligraphy, with swift points and strokes, leaving behind a trail of twists and turns. Using the “bamboo” as the subject, the works have an Oriental charm, and also represents how the Chinese scholars saw the bamboo as a symbol of: modesty and success.

潘安儀創作完全以手工細雕；從泥條塑型到粗胚，從粗胚精雕細琢成主幹，之後每個枝節都經過相同複雜的步驟各別完成，然後一一組合成完整的作品。
在此極端細微的創作過程中，藝術家從來不曾忘卻超越直覺的感性與原創力，在其幻真可觸的作品中含藏深邃的東方藝術與文化內涵。
Pan An-Yi creates his works entirely by hand, meticulously carving every detail. From shaping clay coils into rough forms, to refining them into the main structure through careful carving, each branch and joint undergoes the same complex process before being individually completed and assembled into a whole.
Within this highly intricate process, the artist never loses his intuitive sensibility and originality. His lifelike, almost tangible works embody a profound depth of Eastern art and cultural essence.

1978-1981 國立台灣藝術專科學校（現國立台灣藝術大學）專攻美術（水墨與西畫）。
1987 開始學習陶藝。
1992 美國堪薩斯州立大學， 亞洲藝術史碩士學位。
1997 美國堪薩斯州立大學，中國美術史博士學位。
1997-1998 美國亞歷桑納州立大學美術史學系 訪問教授。
1998至今 美國康乃爾大學藝術暨視覺研究系 教授（期間擔任研究所所長三年）。
2003 發展茶藝雕塑。
2005-2006 中央研究院 訪問學者。
2006 國立中央大學人文學院 訪問教授。
2008 開始創作竹雕陶藝。
