大道無極 The Way Is Infinite

「無極」一詞指沒有界限，預示趙無極的多種創作風格如油畫、水墨畫、平版印刷、雕刻和水彩，他同時擁抱不同文化身份而且從不受約束。隨著到世界各地的遊歷，趙無極的藝術疆域也不斷地擴展，他將西方的抽象繪畫方法和中國畫寫意畫法的空靈意象融合到一起。而法國五月沙龍、義大利威尼斯雙年展等展覽的參與，也讓趙無極在西方世界備受矚目。1993年，趙無極獲法國密特朗總統頒贈榮譽勳位，並獲巴黎市長希哈克親頒巴黎市政府維爾美勳章。1995年，獲日本皇室大賞。2002年，趙無極被選為法蘭西藝術院院士，並授予榮譽勳章，實為華人藝術界的驕傲。

1999年在北京舉辦的《趙無極60年回顧展》，轟動了整個中國藝術界。時任法國總統更專門撰寫前言，提到：「趙無極洞徹我們兩大民族的感性，使二者融於一身，既屬中華，又屬法蘭西。他的藝術，吸取了我們兩國文化的精粹。」趙無極的作品遍佈全球超過20個國家，紐約現代美術館、古根漢美術館和泰特現代美術館等大型博物館，皆將他的畫作納入永久館藏，印證趙無極作為真正「世界級」藝術家的地位。

The term "Wuji" signifies boundlessness, reflecting ZAO Wou-Ki's diverse artistic styles in oil painting, ink painting, printmaking, sculpture, and watercolor. He embraced different cultural identities and remained unrestricted in his artistic expression. As he traveled around the world, ZAO Wou-Ki's artistic territory expanded, blending Western abstract painting techniques with the ethereal imagery of Chinese ink painting. His participation in exhibitions such as the May Salon in France and the Venice Biennale in Italy garnered significant attention in the Western art world. In 1993, ZAO Wou-Ki was awarded the Legion of Honor by the President of France and received the Medal of the City of Paris from the Mayor of Paris, Jacques Chirac. In 1995, he was honored with the Imperial Prize in Japan. In 2002, ZAO Wou-Ki was elected as an Academician of the French Academy of Fine Arts and was bestowed the honorary title and medal, which is a source of pride for the Chinese art community.

The retrospective exhibition "ZAO Wou-Ki: 60 Years in Retrospect," held in Beijing in 1999, caused a sensation in the entire Chinese art scene. The then-President of France personally wrote a preface for the exhibition, stating, " ZAO Wou-Ki comprehends the sensibilities of our two great nations, merging them into one, belonging both to China and France. His art absorbs the essence of our two countries' cultures.
"ZAO Wou-Ki‘s works can be found in over 20 countries worldwide, and major museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Tate Modern have included his paintings in their permanent collections, solidifying his status as a truly "world-class" artist.

1921　出生北京，數月後舉家搬至上海。
1935　入國立杭州藝專，師從林風眠、吳大羽。
1947　於上海舉辦首次個展。
1948　離開上海赴法留學。
1949　法國巴黎約克勒茲畫廊舉辦留法後首次個展，出版《趙無極八幅石版畫欣賞》專輯。
1951　開始與法國作家皮埃爾·勒布(Pierre Loeb)的合作，定期在巴黎的皮埃爾畫廊展覽。
1953　美國辛辛那提博物館舉辦趙無極版畫回顧展。
1958　與法國巴黎法蘭西畫廊展開合作，於巴黎展出趙無極作品回顧展。
1964　入籍法國。
1969　第二次回顧展先後在加拿大蒙特利爾當代美術館和魁北克博物館舉行。
1977　個展於東京富士電視台畫廊。
1981　法國巴黎大皇宮國家美術館個展。
1982　個展於日本東京日本橋藝術畫廊、國立京都美術館、香港藝術中心、新加坡現代美術館。
1983　個展於臺灣國立歷史博物館、臺南文化中心；法國蒙蒙托邦安格爾美術館舉行回顧展。
　中國文化部邀請回國於北京故宮博物館及浙江杭州藝專舉行個展。
1984　與妻子回國任教於杭州藝專，教授繪畫、現代美術史及博物館學。
　獲法國文化部長雅克‧朗提名，授予法國榮譽軍團頒授軍官勳章。
1975　法國巴黎大皇宮國家美術館個展。

　個展於法國雪儂索城堡；於巴黎舉辦亨利．米修與趙無極「符號」展覽。
2013　因病辭世，享壽93歲。
