吳學讓，別號退伯，杭州藝專傳人，師承林風眠、潘天壽、李可染等名家， 2013年4月7日逝世於洛杉磯家中。吳學讓從事現代繪畫之研究，以傳統繪畫之根基，書法文字之線條，金石、碑版線條與結構之趣味，試圖突破傳統國畫形式，呈現出兼具幻想與幽默之作品。

吳學讓以傳統繪畫為根基，融合書法線條與金石、碑版之結構趣味，試圖突破傳統國畫形式，呈現兼具幻想與幽默的作品。在近一世紀的藝術歷程中，刻劃1949年後文化遷徙下的人文轉折，以筆墨串聯大時代的發展軌跡。

吳學讓的畫帶有古樸淡定的風格展現以及深厚涵養與情感抒發。其作品屢獲獎項，於國內外多次個展，並於歐美、亞洲展出，蔣勳讚譽其為開創當代水墨新格局之先驅。

WU Hsueh-Jang grounded his practice in traditional painting, integrating calligraphic lines with the structural aesthetics of seal carving and stele inscriptions. He moved beyond the conventions of classical Chinese painting, creating works that blend imagination with subtle humor, reflecting the cultural transformations following 1949.

His paintings embody a calm, understated style, expressing refined cultivation and deep emotion. Widely exhibited in Taiwan and internationally, his works have received numerous awards. He was praised by CHIANG Hsun as a pioneer of contemporary ink art.

故國神遊  水墨新象 Reverie of the Homeland, New Visions in Ink

現代水墨先驅吳學讓，別號退伯，1923年出生於四川，杭州藝專傳人，師承林風眠、潘天壽、李可染等名家，與趙無極、朱德群同為杭州藝專傑出校友，為教育奉獻50年，是台灣美學教育的導師。 2013年4月7日逝世於洛杉磯家中。

WU Hsueh-Jang, a pioneer of modern ink painting, also styled himself as Tui Po, was born in Sichuan in 1923. As an heir to the Hangzhou National College of Art, he studied under LIN Fengmian, PAN Tianshou, and LI Keran, and was a distinguished alumnus alongside ZAO Wou-Ki and CHU Teh-Chun.

He devoted fifty years to art education and became a mentor of aesthetic education in Taiwan. He passed away at his home in Los Angeles on April 7, 2013.

1948　畢業於國立杭州藝術專科學校。
1949　任教於臺灣省立花蓮師範學校。
1956　任教於臺灣省立臺北女子師範學院。
1959　獲十四屆全省美展國畫部第一獎、第八屆全省教員美展國畫部第一獎。
1970　於臺北藝術家畫廊舉行臺灣首次個展。
1978　任中國文化大學美術系專任教授。
1981　參加法國國立塞紐斯基博物館舉辦之《中國現代繪畫趨向展》。
1984　獲中華民國畫學會繪畫教育《金爵獎》。
1985　獲中國文藝協會國畫繪畫金質獎章。
1988　專任教授於東海大學美術系。
1992　臺灣省立美術館、上海美術館海峽兩岸《當代水墨繪畫聯展》。
1994　應邀於臺北市立美術館舉辦《吳學讓七十回顧展》。
1996　應邀於臺灣省立美術館舉辦《從傳統到現代-吳學讓彩墨畫展》個展。
1997　定居美國洛杉磯。
2004　《故國神遊－吳學讓八十回顧展》於臺北國立歷史博物館，作品由該館永久珍藏。
2012　《杭州藝專三傑－吳學讓、朱德群、趙無極聯展》，名山藝術，臺北，臺灣。
2013    逝於美國洛杉磯，享年90歲。
2017　大型回顧展《線性‧符號‧東方幾何－吳學讓藝術特展》，國立臺灣美術館，臺中，臺灣。|
