康添旺自2003年後開始接觸佛學，並逐漸將信仰融入創作之中。現代佛教是將佛法生活化，佛法必需落實在日常行住坐臥中，是對心念慾望的管理節制，對自身行為的修持。學佛覺悟的法喜境界，藝術創造的心手遇合過程，激盪出了崇高的人文美學。若沿襲傳統手法畫佛像、寫佛故事，無法反映出這個時代人們受佛法洗滌後的心靈，康添旺具體呈現對佛法的感悟是真誠少有的。
KANG Tian-Wang Since 2003, KANG began exploring Buddhism and gradually integrated his faith into his artistic practice. Modern Buddhism emphasizes applying its teachings in daily life, cultivating mindfulness, managing desires, and refining one’s conduct. The joy and enlightenment gained from Buddhist practice, combined with the creative process of art, have inspired a profound humanistic aesthetic in his work. Unlike traditional depictions of Buddhas or stories, which cannot fully reflect the inner transformation of contemporary believers, KANG Tian-Wang’s art expresses his sincere and rare personal insight into Buddhist teachings.

康添旺，1946年出生於苗栗竹南，高二暑假到李石樵的畫室學素描，畢業後進入師大美術系。1969年自師大美術系畢業，於1972年到西班牙馬德里大學研讀以後，因學校的教育不能滿足他，所以1974年轉到巴塞隆納，之後又到紐約、洛杉磯，這期間他沒有在學院之中，但一直留意現代美術，參觀美術館，對當代藝術與美術館的運作有所認知。1982年回到臺灣，先在文建會工作，後任職於臺北市立美術館擔任展覽組長，大力推展現代美術。
KANG Tian-Wang was born in 1946 in Zhunan, Miaoli, Taiwan. During the summer break of his second year of high school, he studied sketching in the studio of Li Shiqiao. After graduation, he entered the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University, graduating in 1969.
In 1972, he went to Spain to study at the University of Madrid. Finding the academic training insufficient, he moved to Barcelona in 1974, and later traveled to New York and Los Angeles. During this period, although he was not enrolled in any institution, he remained attentive to modern art, frequently visiting museums and gaining an understanding of contemporary art and museum practices.
He returned to Taiwan in 1982, first working at the Council for Cultural Affairs, and later at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, where he served as Head of the Exhibition Division and actively promoted modern art.

1998 行政院文建會藝術村籌備處企劃組組長。
